People to people...August 6-ish...?

PEOPLE WHO GOT INVITED:

I was wondering if anyone was asked to go to the people to people student ambassador program and got their letter around September 6th? If so, are you on the trip for London, Paris, Amsterdam, Warwick, etc. ? I got invited to go in 2007... If you're on that trip pleaseeee message me or e-mail me at blast_of_r0cket@yahoo.com . I'd like to know one or more people in my group (?) so...

PEOPLE WHO KNOW PEOPLE WHO KNOW PEOPLE...:

If you know anyone who has done the student ambassador program or have done it yourself in past years I have some questions...

1. Ive heard the cost is between $3,000 and $5,500 US currency including flight. T/F?

2. Do you think I would need to get some euros (?) at a currency exchange somewhere? If so, how much?

3.Do you know anything about the lodgings. I have heard we stay at a hostel. T/F?

4.Worth the time and money? Again, Ive heard many people say its great but I dont want to blow a ton of cash for no reason...

Thanks!

"People to People Student Ambassador" Program Agrees to Modify Representations About How Students are "Selected" for International Travel

Iowa mother whose child died at age 7 weeks in 1993 received letter saying her son had been "recommended for the honor" of a 20-day trip to Europe (with a price tag of about $5,000.)

Reply:My kids have been getting these forever. They are not nominations - they get your name off a mailing list. It is an expensive vacation. For what one child cost, we can take the whole family somewhere.

Please look into the cost of doing the trip yourself. We just took the whole family to England/Wales and Iceland for 3 weeks.

If you have 2-4 people sharing a room and stay in modest accommodations (like Travelodge or Holiday Inn Express), it's not that expensive. You can get passes to attractions by joining as a member at many of the historic places. If you do your research ahead of time, you can get some great deals.

If you want to stay in hostels, it's a lot cheaper, but I don't think they are particularly safe.

No matter how you go, get your local currency by using an ATM. My bank didn't charge anything, and I think I incurred about a $3 charge at one ATM. Debit cards did charge a fee, so I'd avoid using them unless absolutely necessary. Also, the UK does not use euros, you need pounds there.

As for flights, we went on Icelandair and got a good deal. There are airfare bargains, but you need to keep you eyes open.

Whatever you decide, good luck!
