If black people can have the Black People Awards, why can't white people have the White People Awards?

I don't get it...tell me if you agree with this. If white people had white people movie awards on TV, the black people whold cry and complain over and over until eventually someone would get in trouble and accused of being old fashioned and practicing segregation. But, yet, I am seeing on TV year after year the Black People Movie awards!?! That is segregation! I want in! I want to demand that this is segregation. I think someone should put Densel Washington up against someone like Brad Pitt or something. Oh wait, I can't because it'st he black people awards. White people are not allowed to participate. But this is somehow not segregation...hhhmmmmmmmmm

If black people can have the Black People Awards, why can't white people have the White People Awards?
Yeah, double standards and reverse racism does suck. It seems like white christians are the only group that's ok for everyone to hate.
Reply:When you watch television who do you see mostly? When you go to the movies what race is mostly shown? Can't you accept for black people to have something that they can call their own? Report It

Reply:James did his research...

Why couldn't you?

They turn something bad (segregation) into something good (a harmless awards ceremony) and people still complain??

It sounds like YOU want them to be segregated more than you think. Report It

Reply:What do you think CMT awards is?
Reply:I'm Black (very light skin), but black. I think its crazy how we honor ourselves for ridiculous reasons as if we haven't made any progress.
Reply:I COMPLETELY AGREE!!!

They even get a month! Where is our month? I guess we get the other 11.
Reply:there is no "black people awards" your question is inherently racist.
Reply:They do. It's called The People's Choice Award, The Oscars, The Emmy's. Blacks seldom receive awards on those shows because the judging is done by whites. When Blacks do receive the awards they are usually for something that should be degrading to Blacks, yet most still celebrate them for achieving the milestone. For instance Denzel's Academy award. He's very talented and has done some incredible performances but he received his award for playing a corrupt drug selling, drug using cop. Hallie got hers for being a slut and screwing a white guy that she just met after her husband was put to death in prison and her son was killed in a hit and run. What kind of sense does that make?

And it's not true that Black awards don't allow whites in. How many whites have won Soul Train awards? Why do they show Emineim on BET?

Besides if we can't recognize ourselves for achievments who will.
Reply:They do , it's called everything else.
Reply:It is very sad! You see reverse racism every day. I just don't get it. I run into just as many other nationalities that are racist but for some reason we get punished for it. Uhhhhhhhhhh! I am so sick of it.
Reply:because it is harder for an african american to get recognized. it wasn't until halle berry won the oscar for best actress that an african american even won that award. it's just so they get some recognition within their own community.
Reply:Yes, we should have white people awards, Hispanic people awards, Asian people awards, ghetto people awards, Eskimo awards, etc. Leave no group behind. Segregation is not such a bad thing, is it? Why are you people always trying to take something away from black folk. ;-)

In my opinion, segregation should always be an option-I see nothing wrong with it unless it is done in a nasty, hateful, and malicious way. Segregation should be optional but should NEVER be forced. Do you agree or do you think one size should fit all? We are all different in what we like and desire out of life.
Reply:Cuz anything that has White anything on its name is concidered racist against other races. I know hypocresy, but mostly they feel that white people pretty much have evrything else.
Reply:We have wondered that exact thing. And they wonder why they are treated bad..
Reply:Good question.........
Reply:They do...they are called the Golden Globe, Oscars, Emmys and Tony Awards...totally dominated by whites for decades. You can count the number of black winners on your fingers and not have to move on to your toes. I suppose the black actors and other performers finally decided that if the rest of the world won't recognize their achievements and reward their talents, they'd do it for themselves.
Reply:Yes, it is wrong. Latinos have their own awards too. But not just white people win at "all the rest" (which some people claim are white awards). It simply doens't make any sense that certain groups are allowed "special" status and can discriminate while others have to acknowledge and accept all.
Reply:You can already make the argument that all awards ceremonies are already the white people awards. There aren't enough people of color on TV or in movies. We need to support them and recognize their achievements.
Reply:okay...you need to read some history before you ask such a question. And I am talking about way further back than 2 or 3 years ago.

You need to start at the beginning. SEGREGATION was the reason these Black awards/pagents/shows were created/exist IN THE FIRST PLACE. Black people were not allowed to be a part of them/have their own.

To the whites at the time (and yes it is still underlying even up to today) Black people were not worth anything -- therefore why on earth would you award them??

They weren't attractive -- therefore why would you put them in a competition??

And also no one would watch a full cast of Black people in a televsion show -- UNLESS they are the maid/butler/or ghetto poor.

In Hollywood the Black people in front AND behind the camera make up only 1% of the Hollywood world -- 1%!

Therefore even the good ones -- even the best ones will not be recognized.

Since you are asking about movies:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denzel_Wash...

Denzel Washington (a simple search if you checked the internet before asking this question) was up against other GREAT actors

when he won for Best Actor in Training Day against:

Russell Crowe for A BEAUTIFUL MIND

Sean Penn for I AM SAM

Will Smith for ALI

Tom Wilkinson for IN THE BEDROOM

And when he also won Best Supporting for GLORY

But here's some more Black Hollywood history LOOK AT THE YEARS -- LOOK AT THE NUMBERS

Do your research:

Only three African-American actors have won the Best Actor Oscar:

Sidney Poitier for Lilies of the Field (1963)

Denzel Washington for Training Day (2001)

Jamie Foxx for Ray (2004)

With his win, Denzel Washington also became the first black actor to win two Academy Awards (as Best Supporting Actor for Glory (1989) and as Best Actor for Training Day (2001)). With his Best Actor nomination for Training Day (2001), Denzel Washington became the most-nominated black actor with five nominations (in supporting and lead roles).

There have only been fourteen nominations for black performers as Best Supporting Actor:

Rupert Crosse, nominated for The Reivers (1969)

Howard E. Rollins, nominated for Ragtime (1981)

Louis Gossett, Jr., nominated (and winning) for An Officer and a Gentleman (1982)

Adolph Caesar, nominated for A Soldier's Story (1984)

Denzel Washington, nominated for Cry Freedom (1987)

Morgan Freeman, nominated for Street Smart (1989)

Denzel Washington, nominated (and winning) for Glory (1989)

Jaye Davidson, nominated for The Crying Game (1992)

Samuel Jackson, nominated for Pulp Fiction (1994)

Cuba Gooding, Jr., nominated (and winning) for Jerry Maguire (1996)

Michael Clarke Duncan, nominated for The Green Mile (1999)

West African Djimon Hounsou, nominated for In America (2003)

Jamie Foxx, nominated for Collateral (2004)

Morgan Freeman, nominated (and winning) for Million Dollar Baby (2004)

Only six black performers have won the Oscar in the supporting category (four Best Supporting Actor, two Best Supporting Actress).

Only four black actors have won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar:

Louis Gossett, Jr. for An Officer and a Gentleman (1982)

Denzel Washington for Glory (1989)

Cuba Gooding, Jr. for Jerry Maguire (1996)

Morgan Freeman for Million Dollar Baby (2004)

For the first time in Academy history, three of the Best Actor and Best Actress nominees in 1972 were black performers - Paul Winfield and Cicely Tyson in Sounder (1972), and Diana Ross in Lady Sings the Blues (1972). And for the second time in Academy history - in 2001, three of the top acting nominations were also for black performers - Denzel Washington in Training Day (2001) and Will Smith in Ali (2001), and Halle Berry in Monster's Ball (2001).

In 1985, three black performers were nominated in a combination of lead and supporting roles: Whoopi Goldberg as Best Actress for The Color Purple (1985), and Margaret Avery and Oprah Winfrey as Best Supporting Actress for The Color Purple (1985).

Four/five of the 20 acting nominees in 2004 were African-American nominees, besting the record of three nominated blacks that occurred in three different years: in 2001 (the year that both Halle Berry and Denzel Washington won Oscars), in 1985 when three were nominated for The Color Purple (1985), and in 1972 when Diana Ross was nominated for Lady Sings the Blues (1972) and Cicely Tyson and Paul Winfield were nominated for Sounder (1972). Jamie Foxx also set a record for being the first black to debut as a nominee in two categories in the same year, lead and supporting, for Ray (2004) and Collateral (2004). Morgan Freeman's Best Supporting Actor win for Million Dollar Baby (2004), paired with Foxx's Best Actor win for Ray (2004), made it only the second time blacks won two of the four acting prizes [the first time was in 2001 with Halle Berry and Denzel Washington. It was the first time that African-American actors won both of their acting categories.]

In all films considered for Academy Awards from 1927/8 up through year 2004 films, performances by black actors/actresses received only 45 acting nominations (in either lead or supporting roles), if one counts West African Djimon Hounsou's nomination as Best Supporting Actor in 2003. Only ten awards have been won by African-Americans in both lead and supporting categories (three Best Actor, one Best Actress, four Best Supporting Actor, and two Best Supporting Actress).

PLUS Black people are not having their awards and making people choose between them, it is a bonus to also be recognized by your own community -- it means that much more because it's like being recognized by family.
Reply:because the white people of today are having to pay the price for what our predecessors done so heaven forbid the white folks should have anything to them selves. you are right about the segregation thing. they didn't want to be segregated in the 60's but now they do? I'm not racist, i just believe all races should have the same rights. you know, there were also white people who fought for de-segreation and many people died for it. now these people have made thier lives and struggles in vain. i think it's a shame.
Reply:There is a White Peoples Award. Its called a diploma!
Reply:Caz the white actors/actresses keep getting the awards, somebody wanted to be fair. And actually we do have our own, mostly, it's called the Emmy's
Reply:Because we'd be racist. Same with the United Caucasian College Fund. White Entertainment Television. I could go on but I've gotta answer more questions . . .
Reply:I want to start the american caucasian college fund as well.
