I'm from Gulfport, MS and ive noticed that people on here are from all over! and i was wondering...how do people view the south? lol do people really think that we cant read or dont wear shoes? or that were a bunch of redneck inbreads? haha were really not i swear! well....most of us...there are those ones with no teeth and dirty hair that will bring their babies into wal mart with nothing but a diaper on and dirt all over em lol but for the most part...we just talk slow....it doesnt mean we are slow....ive actually had people from the north tell me that people in the south are the nicest people theyve ever met...i guess its that whole southern hospitality thing...well...ive heard that were perceived as low class dumb rednecks lol...i just wanted to see if thats really how people view us...so be honest...but kind please...like i say "if it aint cute...put it on mute" haha thanks everybody!

People in the south...?
its gorgeous...Ive been there where you live and wow I never wanted to leave Biloxi...wow grrreat...Ive been in the southeast for 24 yrs and I can read well and I only wear shoes when needed!! Im smart but dont have big degrees....who cares what they think?
Reply:Sorry, but your post just confirms what I already thought about your kind.
Reply:I grew up in the North. The only places in the South I have been to is Atlanta, GA and Florida (which isn't really the South in my opinion).

My general contention about Southerners is that they are very traditional, can be close-minded about things such as homosexuality, interracial dating etc. I think they are very tight-knit with their community, though and have strong family bonds. I think the South is still very segregated colorwise and I think that many Southerners are more of your fundamental Christians.

You couldn't pay me to step foot in deep, rural parts of the South. I'd be too afraid i'd get attacked by a lynch mob or something.

I will say, Southerners do tend to be more cordial, as well as more blatant in their disaproval.

You asked.
Reply:Im from Wales, and in Britain the common sterotype of Americans from the south is that they are dirty, nasty, racist, homophobic hill billies.

However, that cannot be true of all folk and I think the movies paint that picture to the rest of the world.
Reply:People in the south have a reputation for being conservative and religious Christians. A stereotypical person from the south might talk reeaaalllyyy sslloowelllllyyyyy and live on a farm with 17 kids and a whole lot of animals lol but I know plenty of people from the south, and I know that they are just... normal!! I really like the accent though. Well not always, but if it's not too thick, I do. I would say that most people like to joke about the south, but they know that they are just talking about stereotypes.
Reply:Don't take it personally. I just think that concentration of religious fanatics implies idiocy. The south has a reputation for clinging to guns and religion.

Then there is always the saying about Southern Charm and Northern Efficiency.

Northerners want to get the job done NOW, and don't care if they insult you. Southerners are the reverse. Unless you're black/gay/trans/jewish. Then they irrationally hate you.
Reply:lol...we have alot of those here in California.

Rednecks lol...wrinkle face idiots!
Reply:Its funny to me that northerners say southerners are racist but if you look at the concentration of blacks in south compared to the north, Northerners don't have to deal with as many as us. I'm racist and with good reason.(in the US 12.32% of the population is black( as of 2003), but make up 43.9% of the federal %26amp; state inmates)
