Do these people really think others will take them seriously?

the people i am refering to are the people of the square earth society. the interesting stuff is under the FAQ. Link to their website for information on them: http://pw1.netcom.com/~rogermw/square_ea...

just so you know, as an atheist, i try to respect other people's beliefs, but this is just, i dunno. I can't really take them seriously. maybe seriously isn't the best word, i dunno. At first i thought these people were kidding, but after some reading and thought, i realized that these people are probably pretty serious, just as there are people who don't think 9/11 happened.

I don't think that it's all christians, 'course not, it's just, these people have some...interesting thoughts. but what kind of person says, and i quote from their page " God won't let any half-assed believers into heaven."? I respect people who have strong religions, but i think things like "Hollywood is in league with the devil" and "Airline pilots are also in league with the devil." are a bit much.

Do these people really think others will take them seriously?
LOL

Don't let the ignorance of this guy (and whoever believes him) get to you. There are really stupid people everywhere and there's nothing you can do to stop it. People choose to be ignorant. Best to just let them wallow in their self-created bliss.
Reply:I think that it is some one pointing out that the bible can't be taken literally.

It is an interesting site. I wish more Christians would get the point.
Reply:Go to the guys main page. It's full of satire. They aren't serious.

But the very real Flat Earth Society does exist. Here is their forum: http://www.theflatearthsociety.org/

They will talk to you if you're nice. It is a real trip.
Reply:There's no reason to even try respecting beliefs like that.

Do we know they're for real? Aren't they really just pretending they think that?
Reply:Sarcasm IS a delicate art, but your link is absolutely dripping with it.
Reply:There are some religious groups that the church teaches stuff like this. I went to a school in the summer once when I was little operated by the Church of God. I went because the public school teacher said if I didn't have some more school over the summer, I probably would not pass the next grade.

That is a long story, but to help you understand, these school teachers were called sisters and they were really strict. They didn't believe in TV, Make up, or Doctors. My mother was a registered nurse and they told me she was a servant of the devil. They allowed two children to die when they were sick because they would not go to a doctor. Now do you see how legalistic and stupid some sects of religion can get. My advice is, ask questions and discern everything. God gave you a brain to think with and a Spirit to guide you. Listen to that voice that tells you right from wrong.

Reply:I'm pretty sure they are a parody of biblical literalists. Although I am surprised they expect to be taken seriously.
Reply:It's like Christianity for hillbillies. That sure is strange. Makes me look at trailer parks in a whole new...light.
Reply:You don't believe the bible when it says the earth has 4 corners?
Reply:They aren't serious. If they are, they're insane. How can you dispute the world isn't round when there aren't any corners?
Reply:Thanks for posting the site. I had no idea there was such a group. I'll try to comment on this if I can stop laughing long enough. LOL!

I'm completely unable to respect their beliefs. Respect isn't given, it's earned and they could never earn my respect because it's just too ridiculous. I simply have to believe that it's a joke or someone trying to make a point!

You're a very kind person and I've enjoyed your question very much.....Blessings!
Reply:Im a christian, and i try to stay away from saying stupid statements about whose with the devil and all... but i believe in God because hes real. Your probly just sitting there listing me off as another stupid jesus freak who runs around the street yelling at people saying they're going to hell. And yes, some christians are like that. But most christians believe in a relationship with god (your thinking: man this guy really is freaky). Theres a video, its called the gospel journy, and it takes you through what we believe. The pastor in it is truly teaching to several people with different backrounds, most of whom dont believe in jesus. Greg just shows them what christianitys all about, and gives them the choice of believing or not. You should check it out.
Reply:put simply, yes , they take themselves seriously and expect others to also, else their loving god will bash you with his invisible stick
Reply:That website is brilliant. I love it!

Read up on the God/Baseball/Square Earth connection, then go to http://pw1.netcom.com/~rogermw/vegetable... for Biblical evidence that vegetables are evil.
Reply:There are some pretty baffling beliefs out there. I don't normally do links, but I do know that there is/was a Flat Earth society, too. Weirdness.
Reply:not quit sure about this
Reply:1. I have read theories there is an electrical grid surrounding to the Earth to quarantine the population, with four or eight or twelve sides. (scientology anyone), I do believe what Half God Half Ape is saying is plausable. There may be many more dimensions to the Earth than we can understand at this time.

2. 0therwise, just laugh. I'm not convinced either way.

3. I respect their belief, ultimately it is just an illusion anyway.
Reply:Well, some people are just stupid. There is no help for them. BTW, there is no rule that we have to respect stupidity.
Reply:As an Orthodox Jew I think that this is pure bull ****.

Reply:LOL. I've heard of the flat earth society, and that was bad enough. But the square earth society? Oh lawd, that one has to be a joke.
Reply:LOL! RETARDS!
