Do people still actually laugh and make fun of fat people?

I was reading a question here the other day, obviously from a troll, who said they laughed at fat people (their question was something like "Why do people think I'm insensitive", and then they named all the insensitive things they did, e.g., laughed at fat people, people with mental issues, were racist against black people, etc.), and it just got me wondering: do people actually laugh at fat people anymore? Is it just in high school or something (to which I have never been; I'm home-schooled)? I've just never seen it in real life, and, in fact, only occasionally in fiction. It seems that in this politically correct world, you just wouldn't (quite rightly) get that kind of thing anymore.

Do people still actually laugh and make fun of fat people?
Of course people still make fun of fat people!

I, personally, prefer the term "Overweight" because calling an overweight person "Fatty" or "fat" is offensive. I have personally experienced being called many horrible things, and I felt just plain cruddy after that. But when I say "I'm so fat"

My friend's say "No Your not!" That's what true friends do, tell you that your not fat.
Reply:ignoramus do such things. shallow minded imbeciles do that. its time we realize it takes all kinds to make this world. or life will be dull boring. so only those with maturity and understanding knows how to appreciate life, life in all forms. we should seek happiness in seeing the variety of nature and humanity. so lets change these idiocies.
Reply:Yes. I'm guessing they do. That's how obese people occur a lot of times. I mean they might have been bullied in school because they were bigger than everyone else then they developed emotional eating.

Everytime, someone else says something, it makes it a harder habit to stop. And the rude looks. I think society is getting better but it still occurs.
Reply:yeah, people still laugh at people like that. I think its sick. How can you laugh at someone overweight (they could have heart problems or not able to keep their weight under control), people with mental issues (it's not funny at all seeing someone that could have ended up some other way), or black/etc people (what's so funny about that?).
Reply:Not to their face, no...
Reply:Yes people still laugh at fat people, I don't really like fat people. Im not talking about 20-30 lbs over wieght im taking 300+ FAT people. I think their disgusting and they make them selves fat, they take up too much room eat too much usually smell and complain. Some are cool cant say i hate them all. i do not like when people make fun of mentlly ill people b/c that can not be helped. As for racism i dont like some on of another race if they follow the steroe type. If they are a good person i will judge them by character.
Reply:On television they certainly do. There's _Fat Actress_ and that awful movie _Shallow Hal_. There's the show _Fat March_. There's the "No Fat Chicks" thing, and the fact that the majority of larger women (men aren't as subject to this nonsense. yet) in the media are either jokes or the sexless best friend/comic character. Renee Zellweger's weight gain for _Bridget Jones' Diary_ was constantly talked about, even though the woman looked _normal_.

In real life, fat people are still subject to a lot of crap from people. I'm a bit bigger than average, and I've had a guy ask my boyfriend if he was actually attracted to me. I had another guy ask me if I had trouble finding men (the answer is no).

I'm guessing you don't have to worry about being overweight. It's often difficult to see what a group that gets mocked is talking about when you're not a member of that group. Those of us who do have weight issues don't really think that the big underwear jokes in _Shallow Hal_ or the @ss shots of larger people in countless movies and tv shows are anything but hurtful.
Reply:People need to have a sense of humor so they won't get offend to easy...
Reply:wyy are u asking the same question again?
Reply:Yep it still happens sometimes. Fat people at my school get laughed at but not all of them, it depends if they are "popular" or not
Reply:uummm yes people do make fun of people for being fat, the way they dress, sexual orientation, race....you name it...they do. i think it's ridiculous.....you would think people would grow up after middle school....but they don't. i really think they do it out of fear.....they don't understand so they make fun.
Reply:Of course they do. People are insecure with themselves, and feel the need to ridicule someone else to make themselves feel better. Overweight people are easy targets.
Reply:Unfortunatley they do. I see it everyday. It's the people with the low self esteems and have no morals that do it to make themselves feel better. Seeing as how they must have bad home lives or something.....who knows. It's not right, but like with many things in the world that happens for no reason...it just happens.
Reply:I am a slender individual and I do not make fun of or laugh about the way anyone looks. It is mean spirited to do so.

Any jokes made about people's appearances is very offensive to me. Some people who are insecure themselves tend to poke fun at others and some never grow out of it. It is disgusting to witness grown people acting so immature. I feel the same disgusted way with racial jokes. And I also would like to add by saying I pick my friends for the real person they are and it has to do with how they treat others not what they look like or what they own.
Reply:Peoplle will always pick on other people and point out their flaws - why? So they don't have to look at their own and can feel superior. (That's what motivates them, anyway - a sense of being a failure, but compared to fat people, perhaps they are a "success" in that they are not fat, or not being a smoker, or not being a drug addict, or not being unemployed, etc. . . . - the list is endless).
