Why shouldn't people with peircings and tatts work around children?

My mom has vollunteered to tutor kids, teach confirmation classes ---( that no one else would to do cuz they have a problem with teenagers ) and various other things. She has taught classes on tutoring kids, and has run programs encouraging people to take the time to help other people out. And there have been some people that make comments in the class she teaches that people with tatts and piercings shouldn't be around kids. There have also been people that write anonamus letters talking about how she shouldn't do it, like teach the confirmation class because of her appearance. Is this because people don't want their kids to see how people really are? and because if they are actually around these people, they might not believe in the negative stereo types? Somehow it's wrong for kids to know how kind and intelligent people can be, even the one's who look differently. ( my mom has her nose peirced, several earings, and two tattoos. the tattoos aren't usually visible though )

Reply:I'm surprised no one thought of the danger to the person with the piercings and tattoos. If a small child grabs a dangling ear ring or nose ring, it could result in injury to the wearer. Report It

Reply:yeah, lets get real. theres a whole world out there, before you know it someone will say well you cant work around children cuz your obese, it sends a bad message, or what, youre missing an arm, uh sorry not around my child.

Reply:I'm a school teacher at a private school and have tattoos. I used to have earrings but I took them out because they were becoming too common. Nobody has a problem with that.
Reply:Becasue most ppl think that ppl with earring and tattos are dangrous.
Reply:There are still hypocrites out there that preach, "Don't judge a book by its cover" and then discriminate against something and or individuals that choose to be different. There's not much you or your Mom can do other than hold your ground, and politely inform the finger pointers that they're wrong in placing judgment on your Mom. Good Luck:)
Reply:For some reason many people think tattoos and piercings mean drug addict. The sad part is kids relate better to someone with tattoos and piercings because they think the person is cool.
Reply:Absolutely not. If some one is a kind caring person who wants to deal with other peoples kids....Who cares what they look like.
