Why do people make fun of preps?

I hate when people say that they hate stores like hollister , american eagle and abercombie and fitch because they are "preppy". They judge it just because it is preppy and put it down and say it's dumb or whatever and make fun of people who are preppy and saying that they are all alike.


I'm not putting down these people and i respect them but why do people say it only about preps and not emos or goths or scence people? they all look alike and dress the same and all shop at the same stores and wear the same clothes just like preps do but no one makes fun of them and they think they are so unique but they all look the same.


Is anyone else sick of people putting down preppy people and the stores?


i am , sorry but i just had to say this because so many people do it and it is so annoying.


it is just a style so calm down! let people dress the way they want!

Why do people make fun of preps?
no one makes fun of goths or emos? clearly you havent talked to a goth lately....or an emo. im goth. i will admit it for the sake of this question. i cant walk down the street without some stereotype or slur being hurled at me just because of how im dressed. and you know who is usually doing the hurling? the preppy kids. yeah, the very same people your defending. take a look at this from our side of things for a while. to us, yeah, you do look the same. i was in a resturant once and ten girls came in. they all had shirts and pants on from differant stores (i may not shop at them but i still know logos) but they still managed to look exactly the same. all the shirts were identical in style. same with the pants. not a single thing about any of them stood out. fashion isnt about blending in like that. look at all the clothes out there...why on gods green earth would you ever want to look that similar to someone else....now, a real goth and a real emo kid knows this...they know how to still fit their style, but not look like anyone else. your looking at this from a strictly preppy point of veiw...look at this from a goth or emos point of veiw for a second. look at all the crap on here about how all emos are a bunch of whiney cutters, and all goths are a bunch of suicidal freaks who hang out in grave yards...none of that crap is true. the preps vastly out weigh the number of goths and emos in this world. we do stand out, we are still unique. were the minority. untill we are the majority, we will continute to be unique simply for that fact. dont judge us untill youve been in our shoes.

Reply:i SO agree. I don't shop at those stores for one reason: too expensive. But i think the clothes are SUPER cute, and very classic! It is just a style, and for some reason, plp think it is wrong. i agree, HAVE A STAR!!!! lol Have a good day. :)

"hollisterchic." almost all preps are losers and they think there's no one better than them. its just kind of annoying watching them prance around in their preppy clothing... discussing the new clothes that just came in - while its like the same thing there before. but someone like me can't stop them, for they will just keep flipping their collars up on their polos. Its just.... for us normal people, it just kind of drives us crazy.

Reply:I don't use labels. I've too, heard that American Eagle, Hollister, and Avercroombie are 'preppy' stories. So what? I'm not a label user. Therefore I don't give a rip about what is punk or prep. Lol. I consider myself not 'preppy'. I hear to be a 'prep' you are snotty,think of yourself and shop at Hollister. Haha! Why would you wan to be preppy? Emos, seem to shop at Hot Topic, cut themselves, and be very depressed. why would you want to be 'emo'? Even though I have to admit it would be easy to want to be emo because alot of teens these days are going through ruff times. And 'emo' peeps have AWSOME hair.





I am unique.


I am defined.


I have unique style.


I choose from what is in because you can only buy what is in.


But i remain unique and defined as an individual.


I shop at Hollister and American Eagle beacause I like their clothes! Not because I'm preppy. I don't run around telling people I'm better than them. I just like the clothes there. I'm probably more rocker-ishy. But still there is no label.





I personally would make fun of preps because they think of themselves and act as if the world revolves around them.





LABELS ARN'T COOL! Be yourself, and be unique. Labels are there just so the little pea-brains can organize everyone in the box in heir heads so they can critizise and manipulate for no reason.

and i bet you there is going to be one person that's going to say its stupid. like, they don't even know what preppy is, i mean they are not preppy! they shouldn't judge others by they way they dress ! instead of wasting their time saying that stores like abercrombie and hollister are stupid they should go do something more important!! And being a prep is not dumb, its just a style, GET OVER IT!

Reply:i know right! it is so annoying. i luv hollister american eagle etc. and people make fun of the people who shop there. like in my school, there were these 2 girls me and my friends used to hang with at lunch and stuff. the 2 girls werent really our friends but they used to kind of make fun of me the way i talk and i didnt care but its just sooooooo annoying. there r other people u could make fun of in this world! am i not right?!

Im not all that preppy but people that ARE preppy always get judged and i HATE that.





Your right the way they dress really doesnt matter but some people are so critical and stuff

This is my honest opinion. Most stores such as Abercrombie and Hollister are expensive, and not everyone can afford them. It always seemed to me that the kids who made fun of the people who were "preppy", were the ones who couldn't afford to buy clothes at these stores. Is there anything wrong with not being able to afford these clothes? Absoutley not! But..I just feel that making fun of preppy dressers is their way of kind of saying "I hate those kids and their clothes...and that's the only reason I don't buy them." When really they are thinking.."I wish I could dress like them..but I can't." Jealously seems to play a big factor in this.





Of course that does not apply to everyone and it is only my opinion.

I don't make fun of people just because they shop at a place I don't like. It''s not MY problem or my business, to tell them to shop somewhere else.
