Why do people always say that being too skinny is ..., but doesn't say anything about overweight people?

No offense to obese and fat people or to anyone. But why do people always say that being 00 is always underweight? So in some fashion shows they show that not only skinny underweight people can walk the runway but normal people can to. Its a good gesture, but they put overweight people instead of people of normal weight, its just as unhealthy. Also, for some retail stores, why don't they have smaller clothes for NATURALLY skinny people but have them for overweight people. People can be naturally short/tall, but not overweight. So don't you think that sometimes media and people are only targeting people who are skinny? And why isn't it okay to say that someone is overweight and needs help but it is okay saying that someone is too skinny and needs to gain a few pounds? By the way, the skinny people I'm talking about are the people who are naturally skinny and not like anorexics and people who have bulimia. Again, I'm not trying to offend anyone.

Why do people always say that being too skinny is ..., but doesn't say anything about overweight people?
I agree with you. And that is not offensive. The only people who will find it offensive are the people who have a problem with their own weight. Being 5"8 and 111 lbs, I am naturally skinny. If I wanted to be a model in many countries, they wouldn't allow me because my bmi is not 18 or over.

Not that I want to be a model, but still, I'm not going to gain weight or change myself just because someone else doesn't like it or thinks I'm anorexic. I'm not. That's all that matters.

Reply:being too skinny is just as dangerous as being too heavy.

the difference is that the over weight has been in the media for ages and just recently has been focusing on those that are under weight.

i have been told that i am too big as i have been body building for years and am quite large now.

there has to be a happy medium and until that happens some one some where will be commenting on either how big that person is or how skinny that person is.

what really fascinates me is why the weight issue either fat or thin is almost always projected onto women and hardly ever men.
Reply:Overweight people catch the devil for being over weight. Here in America overweight people are ostracized and made to feel like they're some sort of a freak. I truly feel sorry for overweight people. Look, I'm 5'5 141lbs. I'm pretty small for a guy. It's quite difficult to find adult clothes because of my frame. I normally find myself shopping in the kiddie section of the store. Sucks? Yes. But the up side is that I'm able to save money. ( ^ _ ^ )
Reply:this is interesting normaly they would say something about ppl bieng too fat or overweight and that it doesnt fit societys standards.
Reply:You never see a fat person on a runway. You never see a fat person in a fashion magazine. You will NEVER see a fat person doing anything glamorous in American culture. Skinny people never have any trouble getting a boyfriend, money, etc. because they are fawned upon by all men. Get over your clothing dilemma and buy things from the kiddy aisle, because you obviously think from that section too.
Reply:Because there are more overweight people then there are naturally skinny people. I was told constantly in high school I needed to eat more and I was too thin but I could down an entire pizza with no problem. Nobody cares about offending skinny people.
Reply:society is pro-skinny, therefore people don't worry about offending you because they perceive you as being inline with what society values, which you are, and they are probably even more jealous and annoyed because you don't seem to have to work for it.

The media targets fat and skinny people, they're always getting shots of some star and drawing a big red circle on her celulite and then making fun of some poor emaciated star, it's totally screwed up.
Reply:Oh my. Are you seriously suggesting that nobody has a problem with people who are overweight? I suggest you talk to one. They will tell you how much constant cruelty they encounter. Look at the women on tv. Count the numbers of skinny and fat women. Check the covers of magazines at the store. If Martians are montioring our media, they must think that all Earth women are size 00.
Reply:I have seen enough bodies to know that some variations are extreme, and many of these are genetic (I paint nude models in my art studies).

I think it is important to be healthy. Today's society glorifies women who fit into a size 0, and believe me, very few of them do this naturally. It seems to be the fat women who get the most insults, though.

I'd like to say focus on health, and acknowledge variations of beauty that are healthy. Being obese (or anorexic) can pose huge health problems, but there is no need to bash the person or to treat them disrespectfully..
Reply:Because people like to see other people with meat on their bones, looking healthy and holdable, not broken and sick.

One must wonder where you have been or if you have selective hearing, reading and viewing. Overweight people get it all the time - I rarely hear a skinny person beeing railed at -

By your word usage, you are not a very nice person - possibly suffering from narcissist complex.
