Why are people scared of dying?

When people die everyone looks at it as a tragedy. I see it as a part of life. People live to die. and when people are scared of dying in a sense that makes them scared of living. which influences the type of lifestyle they live. When people are not scared of dying usually they will do more crazy and unexpected things than people who are not scared of it. It also influences the way people see others. when you look at someone in disgust or hatred this comes from the person fearing there own death and even the death of them. not necessarily in the same way but in a way it does. because if a person truly wants to live they have to make it by there own standards not anyone else's. so why do people constantly try and sway other people into doing something rather than informing them of other ideas? and by this i mean a list of ideas that they were unaware of... not ideas that the person telling them is involved with.

Why are people scared of dying?
We are not afraid of death; death happens; dying can be slow, painful, messy and emotionally debilitating
Reply:They either they dont know or dont take comfort in the promises of God. In the bible, he promises to resurect the dead, both rightous and unrightous and they will be judged. Those being found in gods favor will recieve the gift of everlasting life on earth. But in order to be judged rightous, and worthy of everlasting life you need to meet his riquirements found in the bible, from the ten commandments, to the preaching work that he requires, to the things jesus taught on earth in his sermon on the mount and the other things he tought. Theres a lot that go into being a follower of christ.
Reply:Huh? Your not scared of dying? Are you a Spartan?
Reply:I've asked myself the same question time after time. I mean we are all going to die. It's the cycle of life, so why be afraid of something you know is bond to happen? I've realized that it's fear of the unknown. not knowing what happens when you die. you know there so many unanswered questions and when people have unanswered questions they tend to be in an uncomfortable state. And as far as for people telling others how to live their lives-i mean people give advice, you either take it or leave it. sometimes it's good to listen to what people have to say-it might help. people only talk because they feel that it is necessary, at least for the most part.. other times what people say is B.S. you have to know when to listen to what you're told, and when to go with the flow.
Reply:complex question.

Why do people try to sway others rather than informing them of other ideas ( ie. not ideas that person is involved with)? It sounds like you are asking why people are not objective, but seek others to support their belief systems. Your observation about so called 'human nature' is quite descriptive of a lot of human interaction. There is debate about why this happens. The explanation largely revolves around a more social psychological view, that our personality is developed in a social context in which we interact with various types of people. To a large extent our social self ends up being made up of beliefs and attitudes about who we conclude we are and what is right and wrong. This belief system is seen as at the core of our identity. There is a saying 'i think therefore i am'. That sums up a lot of how we function, we are identified with our thoughts and beliefs as the anchor of who we are. If someone thinks or believes differently from us, especially regarding more primitive or core beliefs, we have to sort out how to maintain the integrity of our beliefs by discrediting the other, or getting them to agree with our 'world view'. This is most obvious in religious or political discussion. A very strong are to deal with is life and death. As we are trained in the west to understand and gain security or sense of control from that, it is very intense to face areas we can't prove. The realm of death is not understood well, and there are many theories or theological views on it. So because there is no solid proof that it is OK, fun, safe, or good, there is fear about it. A lot of religious thought has appeared to go into controlling people to behave, by giving them fear about what will happen to them after death, ie. heaven or hell. Why are people afraid of dying, well they are taught to fear it in many cultures. You say if a person truly wants to live, they have to make it by there own standards, and not anyone else's.... and that is very important. But as you can see for strict religions your idea is scary, for the followers are not encouraged to have their own standards, it is the church's standards that must be believed. It would be a radical shift for someone to trust their own feelings or thoughts regarding life or death, if they have been steeped in strong institutional beliefs that have become part of their identity. You will find there are very open minded, balanced folks who can talk with you more objectively, about various viewpoint, and not need to sway you to support their own belief systems. These relatively rare ones, identify with their own unique selves more, and the level of thought and belief less. So they can accept diversity of belief in others, as it does not threaten how they identifiy themseles. Good luck with being unique.
Reply:I actually don't fear death because of the unknown. I have my own religious beliefs that keep that fear at bay. But I DO fear pain. We don't know what it feels like to die, and so while I think I know what will be waiting on the other side, I am scared of the journey there.

Anyone else ever thought of that? Maybe that is its own question. Do you think it hurts to die?
Reply:I think its because they dont want to leave people behind. They fear what they dont know, and are unsure of what happens next. I think this is the time when peopel really question "is there a god" if theya re on their death bed. As for me, Im not afraid of dying in itself. But its the HOW I will die that scares me. Im sure people are haunted of images of drowing, burning ect ect. Thats what scares me the most. Id rather it be quick and pianless. But Im not sure if I want to know when I will die, or how. I just wanna go when I go.
Reply:Reason to scare: What will happen to my hard earned money and property ? Will my loved ones be left unattended?
Reply:People are scared of death because they are afraid of the new, the unknown. They don't know where they'll end up after dying. People who are left behind grieve for the deceased because they can never know if and when they'll be able to meet their beloved ones again.
Reply:Fear of death

1. lack of control

I don't want to suddenly pass away in my sleep or be hit by a car and have left my life in disarray for others to witness and have to deal with. I am dead at that point and shouldn't care. As long as I am alive though, I will care how I am perceived and how my life/death impacts those that love me.

2. sense of loss

You can't make people reenter your life. You can try to pretend they went on vacation, you had a break-up, etc. Ultimately, you know you will never share any thoughts or actions with them again. That is sad. I don't want people I love taking unnec. risks that could lead to an immature loss.
Reply:I think it might be a fear of the unknown. People are, generally, not afraid of things they are familiar with, thus, since we cannot die and tell about it, it remains an unknown.
Reply:There are many logical reasons for people to be scare of dying. First think about it, you are buried 6 feet uNDer the ground, covered with a sheet of concrete, small animal eat away at you, its not something to look forward to, even if you don't know what's going on. 2nd, you will no longer see the people you love, or have the things you love, etc....we know what we have there, no one knows for such what you will get on the other side. So fear of the unknown is always scary. However, if you have strong faith, and hold on to the notion that we are only energy, which cannot be buried or burn, then death become another transformed state of being, because you energy never dies, only the flesh.

Do these people really think others will take them seriously?

the people i am refering to are the people of the square earth society. the interesting stuff is under the FAQ. Link to their website for information on them: http://pw1.netcom.com/~rogermw/square_ea...

just so you know, as an atheist, i try to respect other people's beliefs, but this is just, i dunno. I can't really take them seriously. maybe seriously isn't the best word, i dunno. At first i thought these people were kidding, but after some reading and thought, i realized that these people are probably pretty serious, just as there are people who don't think 9/11 happened.

I don't think that it's all christians, 'course not, it's just, these people have some...interesting thoughts. but what kind of person says, and i quote from their page " God won't let any half-assed believers into heaven."? I respect people who have strong religions, but i think things like "Hollywood is in league with the devil" and "Airline pilots are also in league with the devil." are a bit much.

Do these people really think others will take them seriously?
LOL

Don't let the ignorance of this guy (and whoever believes him) get to you. There are really stupid people everywhere and there's nothing you can do to stop it. People choose to be ignorant. Best to just let them wallow in their self-created bliss.

It is an interesting site. I wish more Christians would get the point.
Reply:Go to the guys main page. It's full of satire. They aren't serious.

But the very real Flat Earth Society does exist. Here is their forum: http://www.theflatearthsociety.org/

They will talk to you if you're nice. It is a real trip.
Reply:There's no reason to even try respecting beliefs like that.

Do we know they're for real? Aren't they really just pretending they think that?
Reply:Sarcasm IS a delicate art, but your link is absolutely dripping with it.
Reply:There are some religious groups that the church teaches stuff like this. I went to a school in the summer once when I was little operated by the Church of God. I went because the public school teacher said if I didn't have some more school over the summer, I probably would not pass the next grade.

That is a long story, but to help you understand, these school teachers were called sisters and they were really strict. They didn't believe in TV, Make up, or Doctors. My mother was a registered nurse and they told me she was a servant of the devil. They allowed two children to die when they were sick because they would not go to a doctor. Now do you see how legalistic and stupid some sects of religion can get. My advice is, ask questions and discern everything. God gave you a brain to think with and a Spirit to guide you. Listen to that voice that tells you right from wrong.

I'm completely unable to respect their beliefs. Respect isn't given, it's earned and they could never earn my respect because it's just too ridiculous. I simply have to believe that it's a joke or someone trying to make a point!

But most christians believe in a relationship with god (your thinking: man this guy really is freaky). Theres a video, its called the gospel journy, and it takes you through what we believe. The pastor in it is truly teaching to several people with different backrounds, most of whom dont believe in jesus. Greg just shows them what christianitys all about, and gives them the choice of believing or not. You should check it out.

Why cant people be a little more complicated than what they are already?

people are always the same, its always the same identity in a different person, its like there isnt enough identities going around its always the same thing, like, theres only like 5 kind of persons, you can be a rebel, who are the only people that kinda know themselves and know what they want, or you can be a gothic wich they dont know what do they want and its not because of them, its because of people around them make them be who they are, you can be a raper wich they dont really know who the heck they are because they dont even have a special identiy cuz they are always changing it to make people like them, and people are so stupid that they do, what i can say about it is that they are the more ignorants ones, because they are the ones who more like to make people feel bad, wich is them who make goth people be who they are and so does the rebel people who doesnt care about anything because they have learned more than what they had to, then they make someone feel in pain and get to%26gt;

Why cant people be a little more complicated than what they are already?
Why is it that you feel you need to worry so much about others?

The only person you need to please and be pleased with is yourself.

Stop worrying about things you have no control over.
Reply:Umm yeah:) I think u should talk to a doctor cus ur making the world way more complicated. There are lots of different people, u just need to look deep inside them to find that out.Just stop worrying cus now u made me upset
Reply:Well you anwers your own question.
Reply:IT ALL DEPENDS ON TRUST. Don't you get PEOPLE ARE COMPLICATED!!! You look at them and you see a 2 dimensional character. Did you ever think that is just the side they present to you. We are different things, to different people. When you get to know people they begin to trust you more, therefore they start to reveal more about themselves. The human behavior is like an onion there are so much layers, just waiting to be discovered!! Obviously you are not going to find a lot of people out there, just waiting to bare their souls out to the world. The reason for this, is because most people are very insecure with themselves and think their inadequate.

So people are complicated!!! It's just hidden sometimes!!

Remember: "We are all humans!! Just like you and just like I. We breathe the same air, if you cut us we will bleed, and are emotions are not numbed!!"

Just remember it is all about the trust levels!!

Good Luck with your journey into the human behavior!!.. :)

Are Black people the new kkk?

Before I start ranting about the way I am mad at some people I would like to state that I am not racist...I think black people should have the same rights as white people AND the same standards to be held to...

-Don Imus - Just because he said something about black people does not mean he needs to be fired and attacked....The black activists should mind their buisness and stay out of other peoples battles...

-WET? I don't think so ...but BET is plenty acceptable...

-Holding white people to higher standards and jumping on every remark they make is not the way to end diversity...It is only making it worse, It is a cheap move and I for one will not accept it....

Please post things about any race you want that makes you mad...this is not just about black people and its not just about any other race...Discuss what some people are allowed to do and say and what some aren't...

They should have these seperate things because they have invented and introduced new cultures that are very much a part of America. And you know what? They aren't telling us we can't listen to rap or endulge in their culture just because we're white, asian, etc. They share their inventions with us very generously with little racism involved.

Maybe the reason you're seeing all these white people be jumped on by African Americans is because they're using a words or phrases they had invented to demeen and degrade african americans 100 years ago or so.

People Eating People?

Well ever heard of the (true) story where people were stuck on a mountain in the alpes and had nothing to eat but dead human meat(the people who died in a crash). They get hungry have nothing to eat and decide to eat the meat of the people who died on the crash in order to live.

Well does anyone have an answer thats in the bible or closely related as to wither it's ok or not to eat the meat of those people. I personally would rather die then eat a person but it would ease my mind to have a yes or no answer.

here are a few things i heard from people

-*Romans 14:14-16

-it's fine because it's flesh and it will just become dust anyways

-*That's nasty!

-*If that person has aids or something don't do it.

any answer is hopefully helpful thanks!

People Eating People?
right now I could say that I would definatly not.

But who knows what would happen if you got that hungry.

I'm sure God doesn't smile upon it, but i know he'd forgive you in those circumstances.

I think I'd rather die though personally, or even eat plants or dirt that was in the area.

eating people would be so nasty!

Why don't people every try to start friendships or conversations with me?

Why don't I meet other people who are looking for new friends? Like people I don't know never start talking to me like I do with them. People I have never met. Whenever I ask for advise I am told to be outgoing, so i do that but other people are never outgoing to me.

I'm was very shy but have pushed myself out of it. I try to meet people and make friends but it seems like I am the only one trying. What I mean is I talk to people in class and such all the time, but no one ever starts a conversation with me. I don't mind doing it, but always having to be the one to do it gets tiring and is confusing me. Are most people uninterested in makeing more friends? Do they have all the friends they want? Are there many people who are looking for friends?

(I don't smell bad)

I'm not pushy, most of the time i ask people if they like this class.

Why don't people every try to start friendships or conversations with me?
Maybe is the approach u r adopting. Sometimes, ppl feel arward when someone approach them in an unnatural manner.

I always believe there r lots of ppl who is friendly to meet up with u, the only things is r u in the right place and time?

A pointer, when making friends , try to be as natural as possible and subtle, don't not make them feel like u r doing it intentionally, otherwise u looks like weirdo t them instead. Gd luck. cheers!
Reply:Friends are like mirrors you can see yourself in them.
Reply:i have somewhat the same problem. except for the part that you try to make friends and i don't. i want to make friend but i am shy. some say i look mean and i laugh because i am not a mean person. sure i can be really mean but i don't show it to my friends. maybe you have the same problem as me "the mean look"
Reply:Well, maybe they just don't seem comfortable talking to you. Try to look more happy!

But you know what? It's probably nothing.....maybe it's just a coincidence.....just keep trying to make friends!
Reply:People are generally reserve and usually keep within their own cycle. Only once in a while that they break free from their circle to interact with another, this is because of need due to business or advantage in another circle.

Keep going Im sure you'll make wonderful friends
Reply:I had a hard time making friends in school too. I'm now 32, and I still have a hard time making friends. Most people these days have their own family, their own friends already established and they have their own lives. A lot of them have friends from elementary school, and they remain friends all through school. Some people don't meet friends until high school and they stay friends through adulthood. I met my friends in high school. I only had two true friends and we are still friends to this day. All the other people who I made friends with through life have either moved on somewhere else and I never here from them again, or they only contact me once in a while. You can still have friends, but they are not always going to be what you think they should be. I know it sounds confusing, but you will understand better when you get older. For now, if you want to try to make new friends, just say hi, How are you today. I don't think I'd ask if they like the class. Just saying Hi is enough. If they want to talk to you they will. If not, that's their loss.
Reply:they probably dont want to talk? im like that, i dont want to strangers that just comes up and says stuff to me.
Reply:To have a friend you must be a friend. Quit acting like your better than everyone else. Look people in the eye when you have a conversation with them...like your interested, you will soon have friends. Dont keep talking about yourself.
Reply:Maybe to some people you come on to strong. Try to be cool and just say hi nice to meet you,or just be yourself and if they don't like you, oh well something is probably wrong with them.
Reply:Most of the people are shy too, you just cant see from outside.

These topics should start some meaningful conversations and hopefully many friendships. Good Luck.

Why are people are so mean and hateful.....?

Were people always like this? It seems like people are so rude lately. It's like everyone is out for themselves and has a "whats in it for me" attitude. People don' care about others. Especially on here people are so blatantly mean to other people- they are insulting and can be downright cruel. Road rage is getting out of control-- manners don't matter anymore...people are impatient and always in a hurry---of course, I know that this doesn't apply to everyone and I'm generalizing but it just seems like times have changed so much and people have lost all respect and compassion for other people. Lots of self-centerdness. What's going on?

Why are people are so mean and hateful.....?

Besides, this has been asked a million times here. Next time just see what those other answers were.
Reply:Troublesome people are people in trouble. There have always been bullies and bigots. There have always been enclaves of gentility.

Much of what you are seeing today are people turned into pressure cookers because of the difficulty of earning a living. Many don't want to work, or can't find work. Others are going without sleep to work two jobs. Or, working at a job they don't like. They are fighting with the bad choices they made in a marriage partner. Add in a snootful of drugs or alcohol and you have a powder keg. A cloud hanging over all of it is a cultural mindset that one is not responsible for their lot in life. It is always someone else who is to blame. When they are ready to explode they grab a beer and dial up Yahoo Answers and we all pay for it.
Reply:Bella, it may seem that way sometimes, but in actuality it isn't. Now obviously over in the Middle East, they've been fighting forever and for what, I don't know. I am surprised they haven't wiped themselves out yet. 15-30 people lose their lives a day over there. At least it seems that way. If more people live by my motto, "Treat people like you want to be treated" then things would be much better. In the broader scheme of things, you sometimes have to look at the little things to see the overall goodness of life.
Reply:Everybody these days are taking everything for granted. They're eating out not thinking about how fat you can get. They waste paper thinking that trees grow everyday. Not really, they're getting bulldozed all the time for new malls, resteraunts, and whatever. Everybody just doesn't know what they're doing. They'll hear about the war in Iraq and think, "Damn, I-raq-ians!! Having all of that oil and making us spend more money." They're all also ignorant, some people won't even try pronouncing a name that's easy to say. It gets to me too, but, what can you do? Really, how do you change 3 million people's ways? I think it's more.....
Reply:Because their parents failed in raising them.
Reply:Although I don't have a direct answer for your question, but just remember that the sun shines on the just and the unjust, and the rain fall upon the just and the unjust.

Reply:With the invent of the internet now everybody with a computer or access to it has a chance to vent their pent up and suppressed feelings towards the world and don't have to pay a fortune to express it on TV. or have it edited by the newspapers editor.
Places like this allow anyone to say anything to anyone who leave themselves open for criticism. Everyone is fair game and they usually get both barrels. SO dont ask a question if you can't handle the answer. If it offends one to read a question then you've triggered a response they have been holding back for a long time. And if you get an answer that offends you then you know what your personality is like. It's not weather or not either one of you is right or wrong.
Think of it as the cheapest THERAPY IN THE WORLD. You get to ask a question and you get to see the results unless YAHOO suppress it too....

The Internet chats are just global cafeterias, people get to sit and chat and learn the thinking of millions of other humans on the planet in an relatively protected and uncensored environment. This somewhat anonymous safe zone allows a comfort and freedom unlike no other. Hooray for the internet. Now you can experience the world with out having any or much fear interacting with strangers. It will bring the humans together as one this I firmly believe, its just gonna take a while. As you can see in your question alone people are STILL offended by other humans, We first have to over come this roadblock if we intend to be viewed as one race, The HUMAN race... and not separated by countries, language, culture, or color... YES the humans sure do know how to hurt one another this much is certain, but the real trick is teaching them how to love and accept each other... SO far we haven't even scratched the surface... someday though it will win out and all will be nice. Till then dont let words get your down life is far too short for this. Live Love %26amp; Laugh, all who view this as stupid know just how far they have to go to heal.... Love to all take care and TEACH ONE ANOTHER HOW TO GET ALONG BECAUSE WE ALREADY KNOW HOW NOT TO.... SMILE.
